Black Writers Guild - Politics, Poetry & Prose: The Power of Benjamin Zephaniah
part of Benjamin Zephaniah Day
Black Writers Guild host a session which begins with a five minute Rhythm & Books performance - a collaboration between the writer Lola Jaye & the singer Eckoes. This is followed by a panel discussion titled 'Politics, Poetry & Prose: The Power of Benjamin Zephaniah' with appearances from Nels Abbey, Nick Makoha, Busayo Twins and Jodie Hodges (who served as Benjamin's agent). The segment concludes with a performance from Luthernist.
This was a part of the first-ever national celebration to commemorate and champion the legacy of Benjamin Zephaniah on Saturday 12 April 2025 at Brunel University of London in Uxbridge, West London. Hosted by his wife, Qian Zephaniah, and coinciding with his birthday weekend, the inaugural Benjamin Zephaniah Day celebrated his remarkable contributions to both the arts and activism in the form of a family-friendly festival.
