A lively celebration of regional news and its significance at the heart of communities.

News has the power to make and break elections. We base our opinions, decisions and arguments on it. It shapes the world around us – and the way we make sense of it. But what makes the news where you live? And how does a local story become a headline grabber?

Join James Mitchinson of the Yorkshire Post, artist and activist Rachel Horne, and former reporter Roger Lytollis for a celebration of regional news. Chaired by journalist and Channel 4 Newsreader, Fatima Manji. Coming live from the stunning central hall at Leeds Library, this event will be live streamed to library audiences across the UK and to you online. Explore how as individuals we have a voice to tell our own stories and influence a bigger picture.

This event was livestreamed from the Tiled Hall at Leeds Central Library. This event was part of the LKN exhibition Breaking the News exploring the power and history of the news in the UK
